Accidents Happen: Care about your insurance protection
Just so you know I & we at Moses Insurance do care about protecting you, your family and your stuff. No we can not be there physically to protect you all the time but we try to give you ideas that may help protect your stuff. Maybe an alarm system or camera, a smoke alarm, a video inventory of your stuff. Maybe a backup plan for power, or an escape plan for your family or a rope ladder for a bedroom escape. Mostly we try to sit and review what you have insured, what you maybe should have insured like your income, or even your life so as to protect your family. After a loss or a disaster we hope you have the insurance protection in place to get you back what you lost or at least the finances to protect you and/or your family. Insurance is not exciting to talk about but very important. It is not perfect either but it sure does help to replace a home, a car, your personal belongings, your business or personal income for you and the family and so much more. Do me a favor and at least contact your local independent "Trusted Choice" insurance agent for a review of your current programs. Indepenent agents represent several different insurance companies and can shop around for you. BE SAFE !
Turkey Fryer Dangers - Tips to avoid accidents
Thanksgiving and the holidays are fast approaching, thoughts of Turkey abound. Turkey Fryers are devices used to deep fry your turkey. None are UL approved & all are dangerous. Some folks over fill the oil in the pot & when they DROP IN THR BIRD the oil spills over onto the fire below & causes an instant oil fire. Many turkey fryers are very unstable & easy to tip over. Many of the fryers lack adequate thermostat control & can over heat the oil to the point of combustion. ( 350 degree oil ). HERE ARE SOME SAFETY TIPS if you plan on cooking with one: ALWAYS USE TURKEY FRYERS OUTDOORS AWAY FROM BUILDINGS, CARS OR ANYTHING YOU DO NOT WANT BURNED. NEVER USE ON WOODEN DECKS. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON FLAT SURFACE. NEVER LEAVE IT UNATTENDED. NEVER LET CHILDREN OR PETS NEAR EVEN AFTER DONE USING IT, THE OIL REMAINS VERY HOT FOR QUITE AWILE. DO NOT OVER FILL THE OIL...TEST WITH WATER FIRST. USE WELL INSULATED POTHOLDERS OR OVEN MITS, EVEN SAFETY GOGGLES FOR OIL SPLATTER ARE GOOD IDEA. KEEP AN ALL-PURPOSE FIRE EXTINGUISHER NEARBY. - tips from IRMI ( internat'l risk institute inc & MOSES INSURANCE.
Snow in Buffalo - Are you ready ?
Scary word to some & happy word for the skiers. Either way you need to do some preparations for the snow & wind that is inevitable. Snow brush in the car, scraper, good tires, windshield wiper fluid, good windshield snow blades, keep the gas tank full in case your stranded along with a blanket, empty bottle & snack in the car, working cell phone with you. Home furnace checked out before the real cold hits, CO2 & smoke detectors in good working order. Back-up supplies in case loss of power ( generator, fuel, windup radio & flashlight & cell phone charger, batteries, extension cords, extra non-perishable food supply for a few days, bottled water supply for drinking, cooking, mixing & flushing ( 1 gallon per day per person for maybe 3 days ). Bring out the shovels, snow blowers & driveway salts. Again be sure to have the fireplace cleaned & checked by a pro., a supply of wood. Maybe some extra cash supply in a locked safe since the banks may also be closed. If you have an electric stove maybe a back up tank of propane for the outdoor grill. Neighbors contact numbers, emergency phone numbers. Neighborhood watch friends. Call your insurance agent and review your policies to be sure you are protected properly. House fires caused by lack of service to fireplace
A FB friend of mine told me her mom's house caught fire but everyone was ok. It seems the FIREPLACE & CHIMNEY were NOT CLEANED by a chimney sweep before used and that is what started the fire. This is a common cause of home fires every year. Also many house fires are caused by a plugged up dryer vent. Sometimes they get moved, twisted or plugged with lint. They should be checked, cleaned or replaced once in a while. Get some instruction on properly installing the vents please...google it. BE SAFE & make sure your smoke alarms and CO2 detectors are in working order at least semi annually. Stop in at the Moses Insurance Agency with your current policy in hand for a home insurance quote and get a free smoke detector from Moses.

Car crashes
Come on folks so many nasty auto accidents are ruining lives, families and friends everywhere all due to cell phone use, emailing & texting while driving. Please pull over and stop first. Concentrate on driving only when driving your vehicle. How would you feel if you kill or mame someone while texting and driving ? It could happen to you or someone close to you also. My client just lost his wife, the mother of his children to a distracted driver who while on the interstate was using his computer. He was watching a movie while driving an 18 wheeler.
