Turkey Fryer Dangers - Tips to avoid accidents
Thanksgiving and the holidays are fast approaching, thoughts of Turkey abound. Turkey Fryers are devices used to deep fry your turkey. None are UL approved & all are dangerous. Some folks over fill the oil in the pot & when they DROP IN THR BIRD the oil spills over onto the fire below & causes an instant oil fire. Many turkey fryers are very unstable & easy to tip over. Many of the fryers lack adequate thermostat control & can over heat the oil to the point of combustion. ( 350 degree oil ). HERE ARE SOME SAFETY TIPS if you plan on cooking with one: ALWAYS USE TURKEY FRYERS OUTDOORS AWAY FROM BUILDINGS, CARS OR ANYTHING YOU DO NOT WANT BURNED. NEVER USE ON WOODEN DECKS. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON FLAT SURFACE. NEVER LEAVE IT UNATTENDED. NEVER LET CHILDREN OR PETS NEAR EVEN AFTER DONE USING IT, THE OIL REMAINS VERY HOT FOR QUITE AWILE. DO NOT OVER FILL THE OIL...TEST WITH WATER FIRST. USE WELL INSULATED POTHOLDERS OR OVEN MITS, EVEN SAFETY GOGGLES FOR OIL SPLATTER ARE GOOD IDEA. KEEP AN ALL-PURPOSE FIRE EXTINGUISHER NEARBY. - tips from IRMI ( internat'l risk institute inc & MOSES INSURANCE.
